Interview By: Larry Knudsen
Tell us about yourself?
On behalf of Stillwater Plumbing, I am honored and thank you for this award. I was raised in South Minneapolis, and I guess you could say that I have done plumbing and heating most of my life. My father is a pipe fitter, two of my brother-in-laws are plumbers, one of my brothers stills works for my father, and one of my brothers is also a plumber and co-owner of Stillwater Plumbing. My brother and I generally handle the day to day operations ourselves; however we do work with several competent sub-contractors as needed.
Tell us about Stillwater Plumbing?
Stillwater Plumbing was formed with the intent of offering high quality, affordable plumbing services with specialties in energy saving devices. One of these are tankless water heaters. In regards to getting Stillwater Plumbing started, I think just making sure all the proper paperwork was in order, bonds, insurance, proper licenses, stocking trucks to handle most types of servicing on the spot, deciding what we should specialize in, and more paperwork. It is far easier to perform plumbing services than the paperwork which must follow.
What certifications does Stillwater Plumbing currently hold and which one has benefited your company the most?
We hold Minnesota state licenses, both master and journeyman plumbing, RPZ testing for potable water protection, certified gas installers licenses, factory certified in Rinnai tankless water heaters, both installers and factory certified service repair providers.
What was your largest project?
Our largest project so far has been installing tankless water heating systems in commercial restaurants.
What are your current projects?
Currently we are working on several remodeling projects, but we are always looking for more.
On your site you feature the Tankless Water Heater, tell us about it?
There are several different types of tankless water heaters, however in principal; they work pretty much the same. As you turn on a hot water faucet, a sensor in the unit fires the burner assembly to heat the water to the desired temperature, and it would only heat the water as long as the faucet remained on. When the faucet is shut off, the unit shuts down. The efficiency of these units as well as heating only the water used, is what makes these devices an energy saver. The operating cost of these units are also dramatically reduced.
Tell us about the Stimulus Tax Credit?
Typically, one can receive 30%, up to $1,500.00 on any appliance with an energy star rating of .82 or higher.
Your company provides many services, which is your most challenging?
One of our most challenging issues is when it comes to remodeling older homes and businesses. Accommodating new plumbing and fixtures into them without altering the original look can be difficult at times.
Tell us about your hobbies?
We enjoy hunting, fishing, four wheeling, and helping people with their plumbing issues.
Do you have advice for young Entrepreneur’s?
The best advice I can give is to be dedicated, dedicated to the quality you want to offer, dedicated to the business you have started, strive to become better with each project, prepare to accommodate changes as they arise, and meet each challenge with a smile. |
